Web Citation and Decay of URLs: A Case study of Library and Information Science Thesis uploading in Shodhganga under The Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune

Abstract


             The study is conducted to identify the citation trends and decay range of URL citation. The data were collected from thesis uploading in Shodhganga under the Savitribai Phule Pune University Pune, from 2012 to 2019. A total 17823 citation in 79 Ph.D. thesis out of 18% were having web citations. All the web citation was checked by dead Link Checker (www.deadlinkchecker.com) to test whether they were accessible or not accessible. 64% of web citations were accessible and 36% URLs is not accessible at the time of testing. It was found that majority of http error message were due to the 404 “Page not found” is 46% of all http error messages. Followed by “the server name or address could not be resolved” is 31.44%. And “Time out” error messages are 5.39%. The ‘.Org’ domain was also found to be most is 33.49%. The greatest number of web citation were to be of ‘http’ percent is 98% and only 2% web citation is ‘https’ URLs Scheme.
